Worm castings are the waste collected from worms as they digest the matter they consume. They provide nature's finest, organic source of nutrients that greatly accelerate plant and lawn growth. This is because they contain active microorganisms that are packed with nitrates, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, calcium, and other nutrients that are vital to plant health. Over time, worm castings will improve the health and yield of your plants as well as stimulate greater flowering and fruiting.
What benefit do they have for my plants?
The nutrients held by the castings are the purest and most natural form of plant food. They are even released slowly so they are able to be digested by plants as they are needed over time. Additionally, the castings aerate and improve soil structure, help plants retain moisture, increase plants' resistance to disease, and repel bugs and insects.
How do I use them?
We provide 100% worm castings to be used as an additive to regular planting soil. It is very concentrated, so a little goes a long way! We recommend the following instructions:
New plants- mix 1 part castings with 4 parts soil.
Established plants- sprinkle 1/4 cup of castings around plant base then water, repeat every 45 to 60 days.
New seeds and transplants- for seeds, make a row for planting, sprinkle castings along prepared soil, plant, and water.
Casting tea- mix 1 cup of castings for every 1 gallon of water, shake vigorously, apply to plants.
** Unused castings must be kept in a cool and moist environment to maintain optimum quality.
How long will it take to see results?
This will differ depending on the type and condition of your plants - but, as a rule of thumb, expect to see results after about 2-4 weeks.
What plants can I use them on?
Worm castings are safe for any and all plants, shrubs, trees, and lawns. You also don't have to worry about ever using too much! Castings will not harm or burn your plants like many chemical fertilizers will.
